Introduction
Every stock position in Sage X3 is identified by a composite key: item, site, location, lot and stock status. That last element — stock status — is the one most likely to surprise a D365 implementation team.
X3 sites, locations and location types
An X3 site is an operational or financial establishment within a company. Sites can be typed for sales, purchasing, production or finance — and a single site can serve multiple purposes. In the inventory context, a site is the highest organisational level at which stock is held and at which product-site parameterisation is resolved.
Lots, sub-lots and serial numbers
X3 lot management is enabled per item on the item master. When active, every stock movement must reference a lot number. Lots carry attributes:

The dimension group design must preserve the tracking and location granularity that the X3 estate actually uses — no more, no less. Activating dimensions that are not needed inflates InventDim cardinality and degrades performance. Omitting dimensions that are needed loses traceability permanently.
