Product structures, routes and production orders with genealogy intact

How QAD's manufacturing model — product structures, routings, work orders and the traceability that runs through them — is rebuilt on D365 bills of material, routes, resources and production orders.

What you will be able to do

Introduction

Manufacturing is where a QAD estate's real operating knowledge lives. Product structures encode how things are actually made, routings encode how long each step takes and where it happens, and the genealogy running through production records is what makes a recall answerable.

Discrete or process: the question that comes first

Manufacturing estates are rarely purely one or the other, and QAD serves both automotive discrete manufacturing and life-sciences process manufacturing. Many estates run both, in different plants or different product families.

Structures, versions and the rationalisation opportunity

The mapping from product structure to bill of material and version is structurally clean, and the migration work is mostly rationalisation.

Operations, routes and the resource model

The target normalises operations in a way the source may not: an operation is defined once in an operations master and referenced by any route that needs it, and a route with its route version sequences operations for a particular product.

Subcontracting and external processing

The concept mapping flags external processing and subcontracting for separate validation, and it deserves it because the target expresses it differently from most source systems.

Open production orders at cutover

The playbook places open production, quality holds and genealogy-dependent transactions in their own wave, gated on shop-floor state being reconciled. The reason is that an open production order is not a document — it is a snapshot of work in progress.

Production costing and variance

The posting rules rate the production completion, work-in-progress relief and finished-goods receipt family as high collapse risk, noting it is critical for standard-cost and regulated genealogy reconciliation.

Genealogy through production

Everything the Inventory and Localisation modules say about genealogy converges on production, because production is where the links are created.

Summary

The structural mappings are clean — structures to bills of material and versions, routings to operations and routes, manufacturing orders to production orders — and the work sits underneath them.
