Introduction

Manufacturing is the defining domain for an Epicor Kinetic migration. Epicor was built for discrete and mixed-mode manufacturing — its heritage in engineer-to-order, job-shop, and repetitive production runs deep.

The MOM split — from one object to two governed structures

An Epicor Method of Manufacturing is a revisioned template attached to a part revision. It combines:

Jobs to production orders — lifecycle and status mapping

An Epicor Job (JobHead, JobMtl, JobOper) is the execution document for a production run. It copies the active MOM into a job-specific set of materials and operations, tracks actual time and material consumption, and accumulates cost against the job.

Operations, resources, and resource groups

An Epicor operation is a step in the MOM's routing: cut, weld, paint, assemble, inspect. Each operation carries setup time, run time per unit, a resource assignment, and optionally a subcontract flag. D365 route operations (RouteOpr) carry the same data:

MRP, APS, and the Planning Optimization decision

Epicor MRP (net-change and regenerative) explodes demand through MOMs to generate planned purchase and production orders. D365 Master planning does the same, exploding through BOMs and routes. Coverage groups, safety stock, reorder points, and lead-time settings must be re-established in D365 — they do not carry from Epicor automatically.

Production costing — cost buckets, the costing sheet, and variance analysis

Epicor production costing classifies every cost into cost buckets: material, labour (direct), burden (overhead), and subcontract. Each bucket drives WIP posting and variance analysis. When a job is completed and closed, Epicor compares actual cost per bucket against standard cost and posts variance per bucket to designated GL accounts.

Manufacturing execution — Kinetic MES versus D365 production floor execution

Job registration (clock on/off against a production order operation). Material consumption reporting (manual or backflush). Quantity reporting (good and scrap quantities per operation). Activity registration (indirect activities, breaks).

Quality management — inspection, nonconformance, and DMR

Epicor quality management provides first-article inspection, in-process inspection, receiving inspection, nonconformance recording, and DMR (Discrepant Material Report) processing — a formal disposition workflow for material that fails inspection.
