Introduction

IFS's chart of accounts is not a single account string. It is a Code String — a ten-part composite key whose parts carry the natural account, the cost centre, the project, the department, and up to six further analytical slots simultaneously. Every voucher row in IFS carries the full Code String.

The IFS Code String

IFS's chart of accounts is built from up to ten Code Parts, labelled A through J. Code Part A is the Account — the natural account number, validated against the ACCOUNT master table.

Code String Completion — for each Posting Type, IFS can declare which Code Parts are mandatory, optional, or automatically derived from the transaction's operational context.

Currencies, period handling, and consolidation

IFS supports multiple Accounting Books per Company, each in a different currency. The primary book is the statutory book in the base currency; additional books carry the group reporting currency and any further reporting currencies required by management or tax authorities.

Worked bridge: Code Parts A–J to D365 dimensions

The mapping bridge is simple to state and easy to misapply: Code Part A becomes MainAccount; the other Code Parts become dimensions only if the target design needs them as dimensions. Do not preserve every letter merely because it exists. Preserve the meaning that users reconcile and report on.

Voucher, subledger and GL period fields

IFS users think in vouchers: VOUCHER_TAB header, VOUCHER_ROW_TAB lines, Voucher Type, Voucher No, accounting year and accounting period. D365 does not have one object with the same name, but the accounting chain is close enough to map precisely.
