Fusion separates inventory management from cost accounting in a way that has no parallel in D365. In Fusion, Cost Management is a distinct functional area with its own organisational hierarchy (Cost Organisations), its own books (Cost Books), and its own accounting distributions engine — separate from, but linked to, the Subledger…

The Fusion inventory hierarchy

Inventory Organisations are the primary operational unit — each represents a distinct physical or logical location where inventory is transacted (received, issued, moved, counted). Items are assigned to Inventory Organisations; cost accounting distributions are generated per organisation.

Lot, serial, and on-hand management

Fusion's lot control and serial control flags on the item translate directly to D365 tracking dimension groups.

Cost Management: the architectural centrepiece

Fusion's Cost Management module provides a framework that D365 does not replicate.

Inventory close and period-end

Mark close — flags open transactions as included in the close calculation. Run close — settles open transactions for FIFO/LIFO/weighted-average items; generates cost adjustment postings to GL. GL period close — can only be completed after inventory close has run for the same period.
