The defining translation

AX 2012 and D365 F&O share a lineage, so companies, the chart of accounts, posting profiles, dimensions and product data are largely identity-mapped and Microsoft ships upgrade tooling for them. The programme's weight sits entirely on the other side: over-layered AOT customisations must be re-projected as extensions, Enterprise Portal, the .NET Business Connector and AIF must be replaced, and virtual companies and partitions must be remediated before an upgrade can even start.
