Building a posting crosswalk from evidence you do not yet have

Work the ten SYSPRO transaction families into D365 posting profiles and inventory posting rules, using a discovery-led method that is honest about the account-determination internals public sources do not expose.

Introduction

Most posting-engine modules on ERP Pathway start by decomposing the source system's account-determination mechanics. This one cannot, and pretending otherwise would be the single most damaging thing this path could do.

The ten transaction families

The posting rules identify ten families spanning finance, distribution and manufacturing. Their ratings are the honest starting map: two are gaps, eight are mapped, four carry high semantic collapse risk, and all ten await validation.

Deriving determination from postings

Because configuration cannot be read as evidence here, the crosswalk is derived from what actually posted. The method is mechanical and it works on any source system whose internals are opaque.

The finance families: payables and receivables

Both are rated gaps with high collapse risk, and for the same underlying reason: the source's control-account and segmentation behaviour is unknown, and the target expresses it through a structure that assumes several distinctions the source may or may not make.

The distribution families

These three are the best-supported in the set, and they still carry a timing question each.

The manufacturing families

Material issue to work in progress. The target posts material issue through the production picking list. The determining question is when: does the source issue material at order release, at operation start, on backflush at report-as-finished, or by explicit picking? Quality, recall and returns

Quality, scrap and recall disposition is rated a gap, and the reason is structural rather than informational. Recall Management exists as a named SYSPRO capability. The target has no equivalent single object.

Proving equivalence

The crosswalk is finished when it has been proven, and configuration comparison is not proof.
